Hello and welcome to Montana Classical College! Today we will be discussing Books 5 and 6 of Homer’s Iliad with a focus on three things:
1) Diomedes;’ aristeia, which is to say, his moment of excellence in which he attempts to transcend human limitations
2) Diomedes’ discussion with Glaucus and what it means for the generations of men to be like generations of leaves
3) Finally, we will close with thoughts on Hector’s potentially confused understanding of nobility and prudence.
Two things for your consideration:
Check out our recent interview with Dr. David Azerrad! He offers a brilliant account of the past, present, and where things ought to go next, with respect to American politics.
Check out our last lecture on the Iliad (book four). I just looked back over it and it might be the best of the bunch so far. I am temporarily removing its paywall for the next 72 hours, so go check it out!
