Certificates of Completion and the Case Against Accreditation
Your feedback here will help us make MCC better!
This is just a short note preceding the launch of our first formal class on December 9th!
We are planning on offering certificates of completion for each course. Naturally, you are welcome to pop in on just the lessons/discussions that you find of interest to you, but that would prohibit you from receiving a certificate of completion. In order to receive a certificate, you would need to accomplish the following 4 things:
1) DM or email the lead instructor of the course that you plan to enroll in. For HUM 302 Which Way Western Man: Nationalism vs. Globalism, that would be Brian Cerberus Wilson on twitter @MTClassical or at theblueowl@tutanota.com. For future courses like Phocaean Dionysius’ class “The Decline of the Extreme Court”, you can enroll with him at @PhocaeanD or at phocaeandionysius@protonmail.ch
2) Write a thoughtful comment below each posted lecture. No length requirement. You know what it means to do a good job on this. The comment can be directed at the lecture or at the reading assignment or linking contemporary events to course themes, or as a response to another comment, etc.
3) Turn in a rough draft or introduction to a paper on the course themes (Minimum 1000 words). You will receive feedback on this paper from the instructor. We want what you write to be as helpful to you as possible. So whether you plan to publish the paper somewhere (including here at MCC) or just want to write something for yourself to help clarify your thoughts, or anything else you can imagine, we want the paper to help you accomplish your goals. If you have trouble thinking of exactly what you want to write about, paper topic suggestions will be made available to you. And if you can think of alternatives to writing a paper, like making a podcast or producing something else, we can discuss that.
4) You must become a paid subscriber in order to receive a certificate of completion. At only $5 a month, this is by far the best deal you can possibly find in education today. Most lectures in each course will be free to the public, but there will always be one or more sessions that will remain behind a paywall.
Eventually we will roll out a credit system so that you can start working toward a degree with Montana Classical College. Many new higher education institutions like Mount Liberty College are foregoing official accreditation. The reasons to do this are many. First, one reason many colleges have an overabundance of administrators is to compile data for accreditation. This increases the cost of college immensely and puts more oversight and limitations on teachers. Second, there is less federal and state oversight on an institution that is not accredited. That makes it so that we can maintain maximum control over providing you with the best possible conditions for a truly liberating education. Third, as Mount Liberty College points out, accreditation is largely a tool for providing financial aid and making transfer of credits between schools possible. Our prices will always be low enough that financial aid will not be a concern and the quality of our courses will always be so high that you won’t wish to transfer, should you become a full time student in the future. Finally, the low quality of education provided by accredited institutions is rapidly being exposed across the country as their standards consistently lower. Our standards will always be high and when we open as a brick and mortar institution, we will be incredibly selective in finding faculty just as we will be incredibly selective in which students are admitted to the school.
The institutions that furnish our elites with their credentials are increasingly being called into question. As that happens, it is time to get in on the ground floor of a place that will always keep your body and soul oriented toward the peaks of human excellence.
We welcome thoughts and questions on these things as we work toward our grand opening.
I will be sending you all something on this later. DM me if you want to chat—this looks great.
