Since last Saturday I’ve been in Ireland, so I haven’t had as much time to finish up MCC materials.
Some things in the pipeline that I did make some progress on:
Lecture on books 5 and 6 of the Iliad. Trying to think through precisely what it means for the mist to be lifted from Diomedes’ eyes…also thinking about the Trojans as lovers of beauty and how this makes them both admirable and contemptible.
I meant to record on A Christmas Carol last year but didn’t have a strong enough thesis about how to approach the book. After re-reading the book, I think that I grasp Dickens’ intention much more clearly though not perfectly.
A friend asked me to read Mattias Desmet’s book The Psychology of Totalitarianism. It is replete with helpful observations on the negative psychological effects of lockdowns and he has many of the receipts on WHO / CDC covid lies; but, he lacks coherence when he discusses our deepest underlying problems. Planning a review.
I read Nietzsche’s lectures on the future of his educational institutions…wow. Very helpful for thinking about what MCC should be. Hopefully I can record a session or two with Phocaean; and I think at least one essay on MCC’s future will emerge in light of reading it. Nietzsche presents a conversation between a philosopher and his student that he overheard…
